[F]ollowing Jesus’ direction to “seek first the kingdom of God” is challenging. Our flesh cries out that THIS world is the most important. We want security, we want significance, we want to be loved no matter how we behave.
It’s surprising to some people to find that all these are things God gives us and yet we reject Him and rebel against Him because to enjoy these things that He gives us we must also humble ourselves (Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6). We don’t like that we must humble ourselves before God.
My mind understands manhood backwards. I’ve grown older thinking much of what I saw around me as “manly” was the definition of “being a man.” It isn’t necessarily.
Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, defines the characteristics and behaviors of men and His definition is unchanged in the face of my predecessors’ or my contemporaries’ thoughts, feelings on the matter or choices.
So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, “Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

Jehovah God is not playing with holiness; He is Holy. He is not only pure, He is purely right in everything.
Lately I’ve been reading through Leviticus, wherein He tells Moses (e.g. – Lev 4:1, 6:1 and 8:1) & even Aaron in specific detail what He requires (see God’s response to Aaron’s sons not doing what God told them to do in Leviticus 10:1).
God expects that Christians live lives characterized by holiness (1 Peter 1:14-16 “You shall be holy, for I am holy”) and Paul explains to Christians how they are to not live in sin but be slaves to righteousness (Romans 6:1-19).
Holiness in the highest sense belongs to God (Isa. 6:3; Rev. 15:4), and to Christians as consecrated to God’s service, and in so far as they are conformed in all things to the will of God (Rom. 6:19, 22; Eph. 1:4; Titus1:8; 1 Pet. 1:15). Personal holiness is a work of gradual development. It is carried on under many hindrances, hence the frequent admonitions to watchfulness, prayer, and perseverance (1 Cor. 1:30; 2Cor. 7:1; Eph. 4:23, 24).
